~C.S.I MEETS V.O.L.A~
~CHAPTER 1~
~GERMAN ROOM 6 AT V.o.L.A~
“Did anyone see the latest episode of C.S.I?” I blurted out suddenly, in the middle of my third period class, which just happened to be GERMAN.
“Yes!” everyone at my table shouted at me.
“Ok, sorry I asked!” I was a little ‘pissed’ at them for this.
“It’s third period, couldn’t you have asked at interval?” Ross asked me quietly.
“IT just popped into my head! I’m sorry!” I slumped back in my chair and carried on with my questions.
Suddenly, someone rushed in the door and said “There’s been an accident; there are two pupils on the football pitches!”
Miss. Bird (Our German Teacher), just stayed in her seat, but our whole table got up and followed the girl down the corridor towards the stairs, Miss. Bird shouting after us.
“Where do you lot think you are going?” she shouted.
“To see!” I shouted back.
We all reached the Football Pitches through the door by the stairs, and there they were, two kids just lying there in the middle of the pitch with a circle drawn round them in their blood.
~C.S.I HEADQUARTERS~
Grissom and Catherine were sitting in their offices, reading over assignments, when they both read this one aloud.
“Two dead pupils on the grounds of The Vale of Leven Academy. C.S.I’s on call…”
Both of their jaws dropped.
Catherine ran into Grissom’s office where he was sitting there looking very confused.
“Is it true, we have been called in on a case in Scotland?” Catherine asked in astonishment.
Nick, Warrick, Greg and Sara were standing behind her at this point and they had caught every word.
“Is it true Grissom?” they all said at once.
“It must be!” he replied very bluntly.
“So what, are we supposed to drop everything and fly to Scotland?” Catherine asked while thinking about her daughter Lindsey.
“I’m afraid so, but what I don’t understand is, why have we been called in, I mean we are in America!” Grissom said questioning Ecklie’s authority.
“Because, they haven’t enough Forensic experts over there, so I have called to say you will be there. You are after all the best team in the whole of the U.S.A! I want you on the next flight out of here!” Ecklie said as he walked in the room, obviously with his 'ears burning'.
~V.o.L.A FOOTBALL PITCHES~
All of us were just standing there, staring at the poor kids, but I was thinking about something as well.
“You know that there isn’t enough forensics investigators in Scotland to process this scene, don’t you?” I asked them all with a hint of mischief in my voice.
“What are you getting at?” Mark asked me, getting annoyed at me a little.
“Well wouldn’t it be just fantastic if the whole C.S.I crew turned up, I mean I don’t care what one, IT could be Miami Dade County or New York for all I care so long as it was one!” I was so excited by this point.
“In your dreams doll face!” Ross said.
“You’re right I guess. It will never happen because they’re not real, they’re just actors and actresses.” I said quietly and disappointed.
Hell was I wrong!
~C.S.I~
“We’re all going on our summer holidays, but only for a week or two…” Nick, Warrick and Greg were singing.
“NO, we’re not, were not going on holiday, we are going to work!” Grissom said a little annoyed.
“Hey Griss, what’s up?” Catherine asked him looking very sympathetic towards the others.
“I’m so annoyed with Ecklie, he never tells me anything before he does it!” he said not taking his eyes off of the road.
The others just sat back and stared at out the window at the cars parked in the airport car park. They were at the airport, now it was only a matter of time before they were in Scotland.
~SUNNYSIDE B&B~
“So, this is where we are staying?” Greg asked, staring at the small looking building just across the road from a river.
“Yes, it will be nice!” said Grissom smiling at everyone and walking towards the front door.
He rang the doorbell and the door was opened by a smallish woman with shoulder length auburn hair and a huge smile on her face.
“Please come in and sit down!” she said directing them all into the other reception area where another smallish lady walked in with a tray of coffee.
“It looks like there are two to a room.” Greg whispered to Sara.
Grissom signed the check in book and asked the women if she knew anything about what happened.
“You mean the two poor kids at the school just over the bridge?” she asked.
“Yes, it’s only over the bridge?” Grissom asked as he slurped his coffee.
“Yes, you can walk there just now if you’d like to take a look!” she said looking at the clock, it was after all only 17:00.
“Thank you, I think we will, were the kids allowed home when it was time?” Grissom asked as he looked around the reception area.
“No, they were all kept back for questioning because they are the only people allowed on the grounds!” she replied looking at a photograph.
Grissom nodded and looked at Catherine, they all picked up their things and walked towards the door.
“We may not be back until the morning as we are night shift workers.” Grissom said as he opened the door.
“That’s ok, I won’t lock the door just in case.” She said closing the door behind them.
~V.o.L.A GROUNDS~
We were all kept behind that day because we were all suspects.
“Are my eyes deceiving me?” I said as I turned around to face the slope at the top gates.
“If not then that must be THE C.S.I team!” I screamed staring at Mark in amazement.
“It can’t be, I told you they aren’t real.” He said looking at them, questioning his own authority.
“They must be, because that’s them!” I screamed at him.
I nearly collapsed, my most favourite team of Forensics were standing right in front of me.
“Oh…My…God…Gil Grissom, Catherine Willows, Nick Stokes, Warrick Brown, Greg Sanders and of course Sara Sidle! THE C.S.I Team!” I stopped them as they came further towards us.
“Uh… yeah, how the…” Catherine asked as Grissom was speechless.
“Well you’re only like the best Forensics on this planet!” I screamed at them.
“But… How do you know that?” Catherine asked me.
“Well, let’s see. There’s the T.V. programme, C.S.I, and you are like the main characters.” I said jumping up and down.
“Oh…” Catherine said.
~CHAPTER 2~
~V.o.L.A DINNING HALL~
“So you all know our names, what are all of yours?” Grissom asked us all.
By this point we had all calmed down a bit because we were taken away from the rest of the school pupils.
“I’m Zoe Knights…” I said “and this is Erika Lawrence, Ross McPherson, Mark Shaw, Shona Logan and Megan Cullen.” I finished, pointing at everyone and smiling.
“Ok…so Ross and Mark can you go with Nick, Warrick and Greg Please…” Grissom asked the boys and I sighed and sulked.
“Erika and Megan can you please go with the lovely Sara Sidle, and Zoe and Shona, would you please come with me and Catherine on a walk down to the pitch.” Grissom finished and I perked up a bit.
I was always happy that at least Grissom and Catherine were working together. When they work a crime scene together, it’s kind of strange I know, but it’s so good. They work so well together.
V.o.L.A Football Pitch
The “Crime Scene Do Not Enter” tape was set up across the pitch taped from fence to fence.
We stopped just in front of it and Catherine and Grissom put their cases down. They both opened them in sync and put on their gloves and over clothes for their shoes. They stood up and we looked at them.
“You Girls have to stay in front of the tape, if your head teacher caught you behind it, you’d be suspended.”
I was standing there thinking ‘so what, he’s a Baldy ******* anyway!’
“Oh…can we please help you process the scene? We watch C.S.I on T.V. and Forensic Detectives but most of all we took a course for a week at the University of Paisley on Forensics. I really want to get a head start on my career and I know what I’m doing” I asked without taking a breath.
“Um…ok, but please, put these over you shoes…” Grissom tried to say but never got to finish because I butted in.
“Put the blue things over your shoes and put the Latex gloves on your hands. Take a torch, a couple of bucal swabs, evidence bags and a pair of tweezers and do not stand on anything.” I said again without taking a breath and Shona elbowed me in the stomach.
Grissom looked at Catherine and then at me.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that!” I apologized.
“It’s ok, it’s nice to see that a 15 year old girl knows just as much as we do!” Catherine said because Grissom didn’t know what to say.
We all stepped behind the crime scene tape as the others were being questioned inside the school.
“Hey Catherine, so you know the programme C.S.I, is it all based on true stories?” I asked while taking swabs of every inch of the circle around the bodies.
“Well…most of it is, the actors who play us, do actually look like us but the names of the victims and suspects have to be changed because of the law.” She explained to us.
“So…do you really have a huge crush on Grissom?” I asked with a cheeky grin on my face.
Again Shona elbowed me and laughed. Catherine laughed as well and then looked at Grissom who heard everything.
“Yes!” she whispered to us so that he couldn’t hear that time.
“This may be harsh if it is true, but did Nick really get stalked and buried alive in real life?” I asked quietly so I didn’t get shouted at by Grissom.
“Um… I’m sorry I really can’t tell you anything just in case but I can tell you that I do actually have a daughter and her name is Lindsey. She is really 16 now.” she said winking at me hinting that what she was telling me was, it was true, all of it.
“So…I have swabbed every inch of this circle, just to be sure that it is all one of the victims blood. I also borrowed your camera Catherine and photographed some shoe prints in the grass, I marked them with the yellow evidence markers. I collected a piece of paper that was found by the outside of the circle with a number and name written on it. The number reads 01389 759688 and the name reads Daryl Lynch.” I said trying not to look like he was guilty of anything.
“Nice work Zoe!” Catherine said and I blushed.
“Shona, are you ok?” She asked her and Shona just looked white as a sheep.
“Huh? Yeah I’m fine, um so… I collected some fibres from the outside of the circle, they’re a sort of blue colour but you’ll know more when they’ve been run through the GC/MS. I also found a purse over by the trash can, with a Young Scot Card in it and the photo matches our female victim. Her name is Toni Gargaro but his I don’t know.” she said trying to gain herself again.
Grissom and Catherine looked at each other and then looked at us, we both looked at each other and then blushed. Then Nick, Greg, Warrick, Sara and the rest of our friends came over.
“I can’t believe you two, helping to process the scene to gain extra brownie points!” Erika said looking at us in disgust.
“Whatever, you’re just jealous!” I said because I always knew she was like me, completely obsessed with C.S.I.
“Yeah and so what? At least I’m not sucking up people’s asses so that I can get further in my life!” Erika replied trying not to look at us.
We all burst out laughing and Erika soon did as well.
Catherine stood up and Grissom followed.
“So what’s the whole Grillows thing about?” Sara asked us as she stepped forward a little further.
“Huh… Oh that. You were not supposed to tell them about our private stuff about the programme!” I said to Erika as she looked at her feet.
“Anyway, we all had ideas about who would hook up with whom and Grillows means Catherine and Gil.” I explained.
“But how did u get Grillows from Catherine and Gil?” Sara asked me.
“Grissom and Willows, Grillows.” I explained further.
“Oh…I get it. I can’t believe a bunch of smart ass teenagers outsmarted us with a word they made up!” Nick said laughing.
“So what else have you guys come up with?” Warrick asked us looking a little scared.
“Ok so… Snickers which are Sara and Nick who I think will get together. Sandels which are Sara and Greg who Erika seems to think will hook up and Brillows which are you and Catherine who Erika also thinks will hook up but I know you won’t because you’re married.” I explained as the guys all looked shocked and embarrassed, especially Sara.
“Cool…” Warrick said trying to break the ice and everyone burst out laughing.
“Sorry if that embarrassed anyone, but I think the whole Snickers thing will go down well so please try it!” I said and again everyone burst out laughing except Nick and Sara.
My mobile started to ring, it was my mum. She was wondering where I was and what time I would be home, but she did not believe me when I told her that I was with the C.S.I team. So I told her to get down to the school and see for herself.
“That was my mum…” I said “she was wondering where I was and what time I was going to be home so I told her to come down here. I have a confession to make, I like you Nick, in a really really like you way and so does my mum so if there’s a fight I need Sara to break it up. Ok?” I explained going extremely red in the face at the same time as nick.
We all started walking up to the main building to meet my mum.
~V.o.L.A DINNING HALL~
“Mum, I would like you to meet the real C.S.I team.” I said to my mum as she came in the main doors.
“Is it really you?” she asked amazed at the sight.
“Yes it’s really us, Gilbert Grissom!” Grissom introduced himself.
“Catherine Willows!” Catherine introduced herself.
“Nick Stokes!” Nick introduced himself.
“Warrick Brown!” Warrick introduced himself.
“Greg Sanders!” Greg introduced himself.
“And Sara Sidle! Nice to meet you Mrs. Knights!” Sara introduced herself.
“It’s…Nice to meet you too…Miss. Sidle!” my mum replied hastily still in shock.
“Please call me Sara and please sit down you look like I do when I see meat!” she said trying to perk my mum up.
“Mum, are you ok?” I asked her as I walked over.
“Yeah I’m fine, just give me a moment. I should have believed you.” She said trying to apologize.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s not every day you have the best C.S.I’s in America in your local area.” I said as everyone laughed.
“I think we should maybe get you kids home, it’s getting really late. We will drive anyone who needs a lift.” Nick said as he looked around the room to see shaking heads.
“You can drive me home if you like Nick, and if you all need some extra space there is a whole extra floor in our house with a room for each of you.” I explained because I was desperate for them to stay with us for the duration because it would have been great publicity.
“Thanks, we’ll think about it but we are staying at the Sunnyside B&B for the time being. I will drive you home though.” Nick replied smiling at me.
I smiled back and we all headed out of the school. Erika, Mark, Ross, Megan and Shona all headed home but my mum and I headed back to the B&B to get Nick’s rental car. We all said goodbye to the rest of the team and got hugs off them all.
As we pulled up outside my house, my mum got out of the car and unlocked the house door, which was when I took my chance.
“Will you do me a favour? Do you have some Crime Scene Tape and if so, can I have some please? And some gloves and stuff?” I asked Nick.
We both got out of the car and went round to the boot. When he opened it, I saw everything, his kit and everything. He brought his kit box forward and opened it. He gave me half of everything he had and even fingerprint powder in a spare jar. Then he opened another box and gave me some camera filters and a few torch filters.
“Oh…My…God…Thank you… so much!” I thanked him giving him a huge hug.
“No problem he said, I will have a surprise for you and your friends before we leave next week as well!” he said making me suspicious.
“And what would that be then?” I said joking with him.
“I’ll see you tomorrow at the school. Try and get me out of class as much as possible please!” I said walking down my driveway to the door waving.
~CHAPTER 3~
~V.o.L.A~
A week past and the results from the bloody circle around the bodies were back. The circle was drawn with both of the victims’ blood. When testing the blood, the second sample was run through Lexis and they found no match which wasn’t surprising as he was only in high school. All of the pupils were interviewed and some of the pupils including my little sister identified the ‘John Doe’ as Wesley Hampson. I didn’t recognize him.
“Oh…My…God…I had a run in with him a few months ago, he was bullying my younger sister with Daryl Lynch, who’s name is on the piece of paper I found.” I said as I read the results.
“Who is he?” Catherine asked me because she hadn’t been acquainted with him.
“He is the younger brother of one of my enemies Rebecca Hampson.
“And did you ever threaten him?” Grissom asked me starting to get suspicious.
“No, what are you trying to imply? Are you implying I had something to do with this? If I had, would I have asked to process the scene?” I asked Grissom starting to get frustrated.
“Come on Griss, cut her some slack, if anything we should be questioning this Daryl Lynch because his name and number were found near her body!” Nick said trying to defend me.
“Yeah I mean, Daryl went out with my younger sister and when she dumped him, he didn’t take it too well. Ever since, every girl he has gone out with, he has stalked or got jealous when they find someone new. Maybe he got carried away this time!” I said trying to act all smart.
“Ok… Um well… we will have to question your sister as well and if you wouldn’t mind I will need you there because of her age. Just don’t but in!” said Grissom trying to be serious.
“Ok… but make the questions sensible because as you know, I know our rights!” I said smirking.
~MR. MACDONALD'S OFFICE V.o.L.A~
I was sent to get my younger sister from her English class to take her to meet the C.S.I team and be questioned.
“Mr. Strathern, can I please take Liza Knights from you to see Mr. MacDonald?” I asked looking at her.
“Yes and Liza take your stuff please because I don’t know when you will be back!” he said looking at her aswell.
We both walked out, across the school grounds and towards Mr. Macdonald’s office in silence.
We got to the office and we didn’t even need to say anything before the staff let us through. I knocked the door and opened it to check if Mr. MacDonald was there. He wasn’t which was good because I would have kicked him out anyway!
“Liza please come in.” Grissom said and Liza’s mouth dropped as she looked at me.
“Oh… My… God… do my ears deceive me?” she asked me and smiled.
She walked forward and I closed the door behind us. She looked around the room and saw the team sitting around the table. She looked at Greg and screamed. Greg looked at her scared out of his wits.
“You’re just like you’re sister, do you know that?” Greg asked trying to calm her down.
“Um… wait… you didn’t just bring me down here to meet you guys, why am I here?” she asked me looking puzzled.
“Sorry… No… Grissom needs to ask you a few questions.” Catherine said.
“Sit down Liza.” I said and followed her to sit next to her.
“Ok… So Liza… Did you know either of the Deceased?” Grissom asked her.
He pushed over a couple of photos, they were their school photos because Grissom didn’t want to scare her.
“Yes, um… that’s Toni and that’s Wes! What the hell… are they the kids on the football pitch?” she said.
“Um… yes… how well did you know them?” Grissom asked trying not to go too far.
“Toni used to be one of my best friends but when I dumped my boyfriend…” She started.
“Daryl Lynch?” Nick asked from the other side of me.
“Yes… anyway… um… she fell out with me and asked him out. Soon they two broke up and she started to see Wesley. Daryl took things too far and when things didn’t go his way he made them.” She finished trying not to look at me.
“What do you mean?” Sara asked her all sympathetically.
“When I dumped him, he got so jealous when I was with other boys. He started to send me threatening notes and then he got his big cousin involved. Then she got Zoe involved and that was when Wesley fell out with me as well. Wesley then started on Zoe and got his big sister to try and fight her, but it didn’t happen. Daryl soon got tired and moved on Toni when he found out that she was seeing Wes. Everywhere she and Wes were, he was behind them. He threatened Wesley and because of that he had a knife pulled out on him twice.” She explained to them as Grissom took down notes.
They all started to take the picture and didn’t need to ask her any more questions.
“Thank you Liza, you can go to your class now and we shall talk to Daryl. Is he in school today?” Grissom asked her.
“He was in this morning but he had gone home at interval because he heard about something.” She explained.
“Ok… Thank you Liza. We will find him at home then.” Catherine said as I took Liza back to her class.
As I got back to Mr. MacDonald’s office, Grissom and Catherine were gone. They had gone to Daryl’s house and boy was I glad they didn’t take me because I would have hit him.
“So… Nick what have we to do while they are gone?” I asked as I sat back down.
“You should really go to class.” He said to me and smiled.
“You really think I will be able to concentrate in class when you guys are in my school?” I said laughing.
“You’re right I guess. How about we take you somewhere for lunch?” Nick asked and I smiled a huge grin.
“Oh yeah, can I choose?” I asked him jumping up and down.
“Um… I suppose so, but make sure there is a veggie menu for Sara.” He said looking at her as she smiled.
“Of course… Ok… so there’s this place in Clydebank… Subway!” I said smiling at them as I knew it was American.
“Oh yeah, loving it already!” Nick said laughing.
“Oh and we’re going shopping as well!” Sara said to me.
“Hmm Hmm, I know what I need, money! Can we stop by my place on the way?” I asked.
“Nope! We’re paying’!” Nick said smiling.
“Aww, come on guys, you don’t have to, I have fifty quid in the house.” I said trying to persuade them.
“Nope!” Greg said pushing me out of the door.
~EPILOGUE~
~CLYDEBANK SHOPPING CENTRE~
“Hey guys, it’s only 11:00 so why don’t we do a little shopping first?” Sara asked the boys.
“Ok, let’s split up just now and we’ll meet back at Subway at 13:00!” Warrick replied.
“Have fun guys!” I said walking away with Sara.
Sara and I went one way as the boys went the other. Sara took me into Peacocks first and she bought me a pair of long black, extra boot cut trousers.
“These are for Uni next Year!” she said looking at me.
“I have to stay on for another two years so it won’t be for another two three years.” I explained.
“We’ll see!” she said.
The boys had gone into The Officer’s Club and bought themselves some new designer shirts. They also went into Game and bought a few games for their X-Box 360. They also bought me a pink Nintendo D.S.
Sara then took me round to Argos where I got a pink Motorola SLVR for my sister. We then met up with boys at Subway and then we had to go home before 16:00 because they had to know what happened with Daryl.
~V.o.L.A DINNING HALL~
“Thank you guys so much… It’s not every day you meet your idols and they spoil you!” I said smiling as we pulled back up at the school.
“Don’t sweat it! We will have to get your number and you can have ours so that we can keep in touch!” Nick said grinning and Sara nodded her head.
“Have you got a pen and your note book?” I asked them while putting my bags on the table.
“Yeah sure, I’ll just get it.” Nick said while taking it out of his back pocket.
“Thanks… +441389 757245 is my phone number and my e-mail address is Devoted_2_George_Eads_and_Eric_Szmanda@hotmail.com. I know I spelt Eric’s name wrong because I checked it after making it.” I said as I wrote it out six times.
“Can you give these to Cath and Griss please? I wrote Shona’s down as well so please talk to her as well.” I asked them and they nodded.
~MR. MACDONALD'S OFFICE V.o.L.A~
We walked down to Mr. MacDonald’s office to meet back up with Catherine and Grissom.
As we walked in we saw Daryl there.
“Is this Daryl?” Catherine asked me as I walked in and closed the door.
“Yes I must say it is. Where was he?” I asked sitting down.
“In his Grandmother’s house. We checked his room as we had a warrant, and we found the murder weapon. We also managed to get a confession out of him.” Catherine explained sitting next to Daryl who was in handcuffs.
“What was it Crime of Passion? Eh Daryl? What did you get so jealous of Wesley? You killed him and Toni at the same time. You made it look professional so that people wouldn’t think it was you.” I was ranting and raving at him and had to be held back so that I didn’t hit him.
Two police officers walked in and took Daryl away. Nick looked at me.
“Are you ok?” he asked me.
“Yeah I’m fine. How could he be so stupid? Killing someone at the age of 13? He had his whole life ahead of him.” I was beginning to get all sympathetic towards him now which scared me a little bit.
“Anyway… This means that you guys are all going home soon doesn’t it?” I asked them looking all gloomy.
“I’m afraid so kiddo.” Catherine said to me.
“Hey before we go, I have something for you!” Nick said handing me a brown envelope.
“What’s this?” I asked him opening the envelope.
“Remember I said we’d have a surprise for you before we left, well that’s it!” He explained.
I pulled out a few sheets of paper which were addressed to me.
Dear Miss. Knights,
I am happy to say that we have accepted your application for University next year…
I looked at Nick.
“How the hell did you get me into University so quickly? And why did you do it, for me?” I asked him about to cry.
“You helped us solve the case, and your far to smart to be in High School still.” Grissom said trying to make me laugh.
Everyone stood up and I gave them all a big hug, except Grissom. I shook his hand and said thank you and he put his arms out for a hug. So then I hugged him.
“Thank you for your help and please give your friends these envelopes as well. They have been put into the same course as you!” Grissom said.
“Oh… My… God… They will love you, well maybe not the boys but I know the girls will, especially Shona!” I was jumping up and down now.
We were standing at the end of the driveway and everyone except Grissom said goodbye to me. Grissom didn’t want to get too attached because he knew it would be hard to say goodbye. I respected that and just waved him goodbye. As they drove off I was jumping up and down waving goodbye to them all. I dawdled home that day because I was so gloomy.
